Demolishing Hunger in COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit every nation hard. Whether it’s due to the unnatural number of deaths rising each day, or because of the lockdowns that have put our lives at a halt, we can’t deny its impact. While most people have been able to survive the fall of the economy and the closure of businesses, it is unfortunate that there are people who haven’t been as lucky. Daily wage workers across the country have lost their livelihood and have been trapped away from their homes without a place to live or food to eat.

During these times, the members of Help2Educate Foundation couldn’t just stand on the sidelines and watch as our brethren were dying of hunger left and right. We had to do something to fix the situation even though this involved going outside in the dangerous pandemic. After much debate, we decided to distribute packets of cooked food instead of dry ration as many of the affected people wouldn’t have the means to cook the food. We started in the Basavakalyan Taluk, Bidar district in Karnataka in June 2021 and began distributing the packets of food to the needy people around.

While the distribution was not without its own obstacles, most were happy to receive food after not having eaten for days. They didn’t seem to care much about the pandemic, which was taking lives around them, which was heartbreaking to witness since it showed just how hungry they had been. All our packets included nutritional meals containing all the basic food groups and bottles of water. We also distributed masks and sanitizers to the people who didn’t have any and maintained social distancing during the entire process.

While nearing the end of the drive, we had distributed nearly 3,200 packets of food. The mission wasn’t about gaining anything for ourselves, but we managed to learn a lot about how little support exists for the ones who keep our country running, thanks to their hard work. It was an educational trip for all volunteers who also helped spread compassion to the nearby communities who can afford to share the love and food with their underprivileged neighbors.

The selfless passion and work of our volunteers during this pandemic to help our fellow countrymen in need was in alignment with the beliefs of the Help2Educate Foundation. We hope to continue this journey and become a beacon of hope for all those who need it.
