Bridge School Program

Help 2 educate has set up first Bridge Schools. These are no-fee bridge schools to give basic education to out-of-school children of migrant laborers in a multilevel and multilingual atmosphere. It has been working in Bangalore GD mara slum area, JP Nagar 2nd stage Bannerghatta road with more than 35 children. The children are given a classroom-oriented basic education and then prepared and facilitated for their admission to English medium schools. Subsequently, the students who join schools will sponsor with half their tuition fees and provided with supplementary evening tuition.

Details of the bridge school supported by help 2educate foundation: (GD Mara slum Bridge School)

On inquiry, they revealed that there were hundreds of families living in this un-notified slum for years together and the children do not go to school, are involved in rag picking and segregation of waste!! We conducted a survey and then decided to set up a school….water and electricity are hard to come by….we are still managing and the kids have shown tremendous improvement!!

  • Started in: June 1st, 2015.
  • No. Of Students: 35 enrolled; Daily attendance varies around 25-30 (will likely increase after some children enrolled in mainstream school!).
  • Teachers employed help2educate foundation: Currently 1; will increase to 2 from august.
  • Struggling to provide school books; Good supply of notebooks and stationeries; School bags, pencil boxes, Educational and play items, etc.; another set of uniforms, etc
  • Evening Tuition: All students who have been admitted to mainstream school from the Bridge School will attend regular evening tuition for 2 years which will be conducted by teachers employed separately.
This is one of the schools which will be the major focus in the year 2015. We need to bring the remaining children and enroll at least 50 children to our bridge school by next academic year! We need to also ensure that the children admitted to mainstream school catch up with their academic pressure through rigorous evening tuitions this year!
