Laying the real foundation for a Digital India

In just one century, computers have gone from being complicated calculators to the foundation of all civilization. They are used in every field and industry and are able to perform tasks better than humans ever could. In such a time, one cannot have a functioning career without learning how to operate a computer. On the other end of the situation, learning and mastering computer science can lead one to an incredibly ludicrous career filled with fame and fortune. Several of the biggest companies in the world today were created because their founders were interested in computers.

While most people tend to learn to use a computer by using a smartphone and repeating the same actions on a computer, this isn’t possible for everyone. There are several children in our bright nation who have never even seen a computer, let alone learned to use one. This can complicate things for them in the future as the entire nation is going digital with banking, ID management, and even the COVID-19 vaccines are managed with computers/smartphones.

Help2Educate Foundation believes in providing a world of equal opportunity to all the children in the nation, and hence we decided to help the growing future of our nation by giving them computer classes. These classes were aimed at helping children in government schools who cannot afford a computer. Our team leader, venkatesh s m suggested carrying the mission out in Yeswanthpur and Andrahalli Government Schools since the children there had shown an interest in learning, but the schools didn’t have computer classes.

From 2016, we began the computer education of 120 students from Yeswanthpur and 150 students from Andrahalli. We hired some of the best computer teachers in our network to teach the children, and their salaries along with the children’s stationery were provided by Help2Educate Foundation. We ensured that the teaching would not interfere with the children’s already hectic curriculum and at the same time wouldn’t exhaust them too much or make them lose interest. To avoid these challenges, the lessons were taught with practical goals in mind and involved a story/game format.

Within the four years that we conducted the lessons for, till 2020, the children began showing massive improvement in their computer skills and were able to perform tasks that are expected from any computer-literate person. They were able to create files, manage documents, delete and find data, use the internet to gather information, and a lot more. The entire Help2Educate Foundation team was satisfied with the results and we decided to conduct these lessons in the future as well.
